Salmon Fishing Update, May 14th

Our first trip of the season turned out to be a little too relaxing, although we really enjoyed the beautiful weather and seas. Salmon fishing has been extremely slow for the past few days, along the entire California coast, so we are happy enough with our five small salmon for the trip.

We started out Thursday morning in Pt Arena and by noon had caught our first fish of the season. We ran to and anchored in Fort Ross after our first day of fishing, thinking we might go down to the city where the rest of the fleet were working. When we heard their recent scores were similar to ours, we decided to troll our way back towards home. Mid day Friday we came across some good dark green water, then three fish on one wire! We worked that spot for a few hours, catching one more fish for the evening, and stayed in one of our favorite anchorages, Fish Rocks, Friday night. As we approached the Pt Arena northern fishing boundary line Saturday without a single bite for the morning we felt it was time to come home.

Those few fish were not enough to have a sale, but we still wanted to share with you. So here is a picture of our first fish of the season!

We trust that salmon fishing will pick up and are going out for another trip when the wind backs off. It's always a gamble to head out there, that's why we call it fishing!
